How do I begin my weight loss journey?

And how to deal with it when your mindset goes to s**t!

We all know that most of the time starting is the hardest part, but it gets even harder when your starting for the 67th time. We live in a society fuelled by diet culture which means many of us are consistent yoyo dieters.

Let me be honest with you about something...my mindset has been all over the place this last few weeks. I had covid last month and got hit with a virus this month and I haven't been able to exercise. Not exercising has had a knock on effect on how I have been feeling and I have been choosing to eat crap.

It took me a week or so to recognise my negative mindset shift and I instantly had that dreaded thought of 'oh god, now I have to get back into it.' So let me tell you exactly what I did and what to focus on to get past that feeling that it is just to hard to get started.

When getting started, it is important to remember 2 things:

1. Focus on today. When we are thinking about the time it might take us to achieve our weight loss goal we suddenly see this huge goal that feels soooo difficult to reach. And we deal with this by putting it off! So rather than thinking about the how long and hard it will be, focus on what you can do today. It all starts with 1 positive choice, 1 change, 1 walk or 1 workout. Once you start, you are on track and it's much easier to keep going.

2. Stop letting one unhealthy meal derail your goal. We tend to have this all or nothing mindset that we are either being good or we are being bad. We often think if we aren't on a diet that we will binge eat 2 cheesecakes every night. That just isn't how it works. If you want a takeaway on a Saturday night then you have one, it doesn't have to lead to 4 desserts, 6 bottles of wine and all the chocolate you can get hands on.

3. Believe that you can achieve it. If we are looking at the goal in front of us thinking that is just too hard to achieve than you have given up before you have even started. If your goal seems out of your reach, break it down. What do you need to do today to achieve your goal for this week?

The way you look at things will always change how you feel about it! Mindset IS everything.

By making a few small changes to the way you think, big changes can start happening in the way you think, the way you feel and the way you eat!
